The Lunar Eclipse

Video collage of eclipse images
A patchwork of heavy gray clouds filled the evening sky on March 13. After a brief rainstorm, the sky cleared to the east and a brilliant full moon appeared. In the early hours of the next morning, the moonlight slowly faded as the earth passed almost directly between the moon and the sun. As the moon and the earth crossed paths, the shadow on the moon changed from golden orange to burnt umber and then back to gold. At this location In Eastern Kentucky a narrow white band of bright light remained at the topmost edge throughout the eclipse. As two hours passed the shadow grew steadily and the sky darkened. At last a crescent of white reappeared on the opposite side of the moon. Slowly the crescent grew until it filled the shadow and bathed the world in moonlight.
